We have a long history of community and mission involvement. Our physicians and staff eagerly participate in many programs, sharing our time and talents.
Salva Vida Medical Foundation
The Salva Vida Medical Foundation is devoted to saving lives through mission trips to impoverished countries.
Salva Vida has sent many teams to Haiti since the January 2010 earthquake. This earthquake devastated Haiti, injuring over 300,000 people and leaving 1.5 million homeless.
Dr. Fred McGlynn, one of our joint replacement surgeons at Tuckahoe Orthopaedics, is the co-founder of Salva Vida. He’s devoted countless hours organizing mission trips and raising needed funding. He’s also traveled with these teams to Haiti, providing care to children and adults.
World Pediatric Project
Together, they have provided over 400 surgical evaluations and operated on more than 60 children in the Eastern Caribbean through their annual missions to St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
All of these services are provided free of charge to these young patients and their families, giving them life-changing care that is otherwise not available to them in their home country.
Tuckahoe Orthopaedics and World Pediatric Project have also partnered to bring patients in need of more complex surgical care to Richmond for treatment.
We work closely with Richmond Academy of Medicine’s Access Now program to provide orthopedic care for those without any insurance coverage who meet income guidelines. Access Now is a community partnership which strives to improve the health of thousands of uninsured people throughout the Richmond area by providing access to specialty care.
We also offer free MRI services to uninsured patients meeting income guidelines. We work closely with the free clinics in the area to promote this program. To find out if you qualify for free MRI services, please contact Linda Simpkins at 804.288.2830, ext. 142.

Tuckahoe Orthopaedics is happy to support the Special Olympics for this wonderful event. Our physicians are there to provide medical coverage during the Summer Games. Dr. John Meyers, one of our Sports Medicine Physicians, is very dedicated to Special Olympics Virginia and serves on the Board of Directors.
Tuckahoe Orthopaedics also participates in the annual Special Olympics Polar Plunge held in Virginia Beach. They had a wonderful time at the 2017 event. See the team in action below:
