Dr. Scott A. Putney, Hand and Upper Extremities, Tuckahoe OrthopaedicsDr. Scott A. Putney specializes in surgery of the hand and upper extremities as well as microvascular surgery.  He earned his medical degree from the Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine (MCV).  He served his residency in both general surgery and orthopaedic surgery at the University of Florida College Of Medicine.  He then went on to a fellowship program in Hand Surgery at the Christine Kleinert Institute at the University of Louisville in Kentucky. (A fellowship is an extra year of specialized training that a physician chooses to pursue after completing medical school and residency training).

Dr. Putney and his staff treat patients with musculoskeletal conditions and injuries to the hand and upper extremities. He has a special interest in the emerging field of wide awake hand surgery under local anesthetic; which allows for quicker recovery, lower cost to the patient, and potentially improved outcomes. Many of his patients benefit from conservative treatments including medication, splinting, physical therapy and/or injections.  For those who require surgery, he is skilled and experienced in the most up-to-date surgical techniques including microvascular surgery.

Dr. Putney grew up in the west end of Richmond.  He is a graduate of Washington and Lee University with a Bachelor of Science in Biology.  He and his wife have two daughters.  He enjoys spending time with family, playing golf and working out.  In addition to being Board Eligible through the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery, Dr. Putney is also a member of the American Society for Surgery of the Hand and a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons.
